The building is beautiful. It's a historic building and it definitely shows its age, but in a good way. It's got plenty of personality you wouldn't get at more "standard" hotel. Lots of cool antique furniture, and I think even the floors are original.
The service was generally very good. We missed one day/night of our reservation due to flooding in our location. The trains were literally not running and as we do not have a car there was no way for us to get there. The inn owner accommodated us getting there a day late and even offered a voucher for the day we missed which we really appreciated. We had just taken that day as a loss and were happy to get there at all, never asked for a refund or voucher so this was a nice surprise. We asked if it was possible to check out an hour or two late so we could spend some extra time in Cold Springs since we missed a day, and this request was accommodated as well which was appreciated. Everyone on the staff we interacted with was kind and respectful.
They put out an apple pie around the middle of the afternoon which was really tasty. I think here is some sort of baked good every afternoon. The complimentary breakfast the next day was very good - there was so much food I barely finished. A comparable breakfast in the area would probably cost at least $25 a person if not more. The breakfast was served in their "Victorian Conservatory" which was gorgeous as well.
The room we had was pretty nice. The beds were large and comfortable although the quality of the bed linens was a little lacking. The pillows were not really comfortable. Not the best, but you stay at a historic B&B for the personality, not a spotless sterile experience. There are no televisions or extraneous modern creature comforts like a mini-fridge but I consider this a plus, makes for a more quaint experience.
There was a misunderstanding about something but the owner called us to clear it up which was appreciated. Overall it was a good experience.
Breakfast was a highlight as was the communal cake that I inhaled while slightly drunk.
