One of the best not-so-hidden gems in NWLA. Cypress Black Bayou Recreation Area has all the things locals like to complain about not having. They have both primitive and RV camping, they have wide open fields, beautiful forest areas, nature trails, and even a sandy beach. There's a tiny zoo with peacocks wandering around and an enclosed area with (what I hope) are rescue & release deer. Plenty of shade areas, boat launches, cook tops, picnic tables, and nets for games like volleyball. There is a small entrance fee based on the number of people you have with you. If you get a day pass I believe it's $5 per person, or you can get an annual pass for I believe $25. It's a wonderful local gem.

I spent a lot of time at this park a long time ago, and when I was back in town on a windy gloomy day I wanted to show the wildlife area and museum to my Wife and young child. To begin the lady at the entrance was rude and stated the price for entry was $20. This price seems unreasonable for a quick trip thru the park. Also, after looking it up the park says it is $5 per person so I'm not sure where the extra $5 came from.

Was pretty upset when my daughter and I got to the park at 4:30 on a Friday only to be told they stopped selling day passes at 4pm. The website says nothing about that what so ever, it just states that the days and times they are opened and the times they close. Entry fee is 5$ and they close the entrance gate 15 minutes prior to closing time. The lady was rude and I'm so upset because I had been planning to come and play volleyball with my child after she got out of school. The fact that they refuse entry at 4pm on Friday, when the site specifically states they lose at 6:30 is, outrageous and stupid.
